Once upon a playroom

Hard fired porcelain, wood and silk thread.

3 x 3.5 x 6.5 inches

This work traces back to the attics in my maternal ancestral home, where as a child my discoveries were beyond my comprehension. Only that you had to tread carefully because of  mud and wood floor under your feet and copper vessels of secrets and palm leaves with stranger inscriptions.

They say an artist shouldn’t romanticise materiality and rather focus on the idea/concept. However to understand material has its own exhilarating beauty. @edmunddewaal was my window into porcelain and the beauty of its quiet transformative presence. And it’s ability distill emotions to precision.
